VICTORIAN
COUNTRY CUP
First
contested in 1981 at Warrnambool, when played over one round. Eight associations
competed for a perpetual cup for the overall winners. The eight original
associations were Albury / Wodonga, Ballarat, Bendigo, Colac, Geelong, Latrobe
Valley, Shepparton and Warrnambool.
Sale
joined in 1983 and Mildura in 1985. No more new teams until 2000 when Oven's
& Murray joined. Two new teams in 2001 - Sale & District and Bairnsdale.
(Bairnsdale only bowled until 2003)
Back
to ten teams from 2009 with the closure of Sale bowl.
Three
perfect "300's" have been bowled in the 30 years the event has
been held. The first, in 2000, by Jason
Motta from Latrobe Valley the second, in 2009, by Josh Alvisse from Geelong and
the third by Kevin Wilkins from Shepparton in 2010.
Colac have won the Overall trophy three (3) times and the Men's six (6) times. Colac
women have not yet won their division.
Hall
of Fame inductions commenced in 2011. There are two categories - Hall of Fame
and Legends.
